Acid Rain will not damage the Acropolis buildings anymore

On 12 July 1996, more than a year ago, a team of specialists covered one of the columns of the Propylaia with a specially prepared material to protect it from acid rain. Last November it was announced that the mixture used protected the column completely and prevailed further deterioration. Prof. Skoularikides, member of the special committee for the Preservation of the Acropolis monuments, also announced that the same protective material has been used successfully so far in more than thirty five marble and stone monuments all over Europe.

Treasures return to Vergina

On 30 November 1997 the artifacts found in 1977 in Vergina, Greece by the late Prof. Manoles Andronikos and since then been exhibited in Thessalonike, returned to a specially build Museum in the spot they were unearthed. The great royal tomb in Vergina has been converted into an underground museum to accommodate the findings. Along with the exhibits from the royal tomb, archaeologists decided to put next to them whatever was found from graves of plain ancient Macedonians on the same spot. Thus one will be able to make the comparison and understand the difference in social status.
