D. I. Loizos is a college social history professor and a passionate lover of classical music. He began listening to classical music in his late teens in the mid 1970s using the local radio station and his father's small collection of vinyl records. By the mid 1980s he had become a systematic listener as well as a collector of classical music LPs. In the late 1990s he was lucky enough to be given a large collection of classical music LPs ranging all the way from the 1950s to the 1990s as well as a small collection of symphonic music 78rps records. He had already begun collecting recordings on CD and had become a conscious listener of classical music. It was in the early 1990s when he became interested in learning more about the lives of composers in relation to the historical background, in analyzing their works, and in selecting recordings. He owns more than 1000 classical music LPs, more than 20.000 classical music CDs, and about 1000 classical music DVDs.
