A Japanese soldier who had been fighting the US Army for 31 years
Soisi Yokoi, who had been fighting against the Americans from 1941 to 1972 died of a heart attack on 25 November 1997 at the age of 82. Yokoi was fighting on Guam island when Japan surrendered but he refused to accept the military defeat of his country and decided to live alone in the jungle. In 1972 he was seen by two hunters and a month later returned to Japan. Yokoi adapted easily to his new life and worked as a survival specialist for years.
